“Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.” James 5:16

I am learning the power of prayer. We are constantly doing ministry, either ATL or something planned out by our hosts.

ATL stands for ‘ask the Lord’. He can use us in powerful ways if we make ourselves available and listen to Him.

Adventures in Missions encourages us to ask God to lead us with our time, energy, and resources. We ask Him which town to go to, which person to chat with, who to pray healing over, and what words to say.

I encourage you to do the same. You might have the rest of your week planned out, but did you leave room for God to move? Do you want Him to use you to further His kingdom?

Attached to this blog is a link to a prayer calendar which includes a different prayer request for each day of the month. You are welcome to print it out and pray for my squad and I each day of the month until we are finished with the World Race.

Please feel free to email or message me if you have encouragement or a specific word from the Lord.

In addition to the prayer calendar resource, I also have the opportunity for you to commit to pray for me one day per month. This is also a way I can be praying for my support team in a more structured way. If you want to sign up for a specific day of the month, get in contact with me and I can tell you which days are left or where you can double up.

Life Update:

I’ve been in the beautiful Guatemala for a few days now. It’s been restful at the AIM base. We get beds and a roof!!

I’ve been struggling up the steep learning curve of Spanish, but I have been praying the Lord gives me the ability to learn it quickly. I’ve witnessed and heard of powerful conversations from my squadmates. Google translate is somewhat helpful, I am thankful for it. But I see the need of speaking in the Guatemalans heart language, and I want to be able to communicate better.

Today is Independence day for Guatemala and some other central american countries. Lots of honking, water splashing, whistling, and groups running through the streets with torches wearing blue and white. We joined a soccer team the other day on their run to a nearby town.

Ministry with One Way starts tomorrow for my team of 6. After a week we will move to Petén for 5 weeks of ministry with One Way. You can look up the ministry website here. Please be praying for team unity and good communication. Also for energy and healing as a few of us are sick. We want to be the hands and feet of Jesus, speaking His truth and shining His love to those that haven’t heard.

I want to be strategic in prayer. Practicing listening to God has been a constant theme this year. I don’t want to act out of my own wisdom, I want to be obedient to Christ. “Every move I make, I make in You.” Sorry if that song now gets stuck in your head, but maybe the discipline of listening to the Lord becomes a habit!

Not my will, but His,

Sarah

  1. Sarah, your post beautifully describes your heart of willingness to follow the Lord and your desire to accomplish His will! I am so thankful you are apart of P Squad. You bring a lot to the table, as God has fashioned you to be a powerful woman of God!

  2. I will be praying for you Sarah! I love the prayer calendar idea and I printed one for Matt and I to use. God will use your spanish to love the Guatamalan people and I’m confident many lives will be touched by Jesus in you!

  3. This prayer calendar is AWESOME! What a cool idea. I printed one! I’m so excited you are on our squad and that I get to journey with you this year. We are going to have fun adventuring with the Lord and letting Him stretch us!

  4. Thinking of you!! You are going to be awesome in Guatemala. You have such a giving and kind spirit about you and you emulate the Savior. My prayers are always with you and your team. The language will become easier as you are surrounded by the culture. The Lord will make weak things strong.

  5. So good Sarah,

I like Samuel to Saul, “obedience is better than my sacrifices, to listen and obey is better than the fat of sacrificial rams.”
From your closing statement, “not my will but his “ to Your deep desire to believe God to give you the gift of tongues and not being satisfied with Google translate forever. I love your hunger sister to be that broken alabaster jar and vessel of honor, fit for the masters use.
    Super encouraging blog
